Last week of School Term

Hi again.

Been a busy week. Had a great final lesson with the Yr7's at Parkway Middle on Monday, unfortunatly they had to cancel Tuesday's assembly. Meeting with Youth Services was great, I'm going to be doing some one-to-one work with one of the kids which is a really positive thing I believe that we can work with the Youth Services. I ended up going to Parkway Middle Christmas Concert which was superb! And I've ended the week with some great meetings looking ahead to the coming year with some lesson and assemblies planned.

Next week is the last week of term, they finish on Tuesday so the only thing booked in is spending the afternoon at Parkway Middle on the last day of term to join in the fun. After that the weeks up to Christmas will be planning the coming lessons.

I won't add any blogs now until the New Year so Merry Christmas, have a good one and I'll see you all in 2007!

The work of Monday 11th-Friday 15th 06

Hi after a busy week I'm just writing a quick update for the coming week...

Monday: Meeting with Kathie my mentor in the morning and a Yr7 RE lesson on 'Growing Up as a Christian' at Parkway Middle, then the HSI Exec meeting in the evening.

Tuesday: Yr7 assembly at Parkway, 'A Christmas Gift' theme.

Wednesday: A meeting with Youth Services.

Friday: Meeting with RE Co-ordinator at Castle Manor.

Things are quietening off now due to the Christmas activities in school so I will be looking forward to preparing things for the New Year.

Have a good weekend.

The work of Monday 4th-Friday 8th December '06

Hello again.

This week coming is fairly busy again...here's what's happening;

Monday I'm back to KEGS with BCY in Bury for another Yr9 Christmas lesson with James Tennant.

Tuesday I've got a lesson with the Yr7 RE group talking about 'Growing Up as a Christian', another chance to share my testimony and answer questions.

Thursday I'm back in Parkway with another Yr7 RE lesson.

Friday I have a late morning lesson at Parkway again with Yr7 RE then I have to rush over to Clare Middle to do a Christmas assembly.

Hopefully it will be another great week especially with the lessons so please pray for an openness from the young people and staff.

Have a good week.

The work of Monday 27th November to Friday 1st December '06

So this is where I start with what I will be doing week by week, but for now I'll leave you with what has happened this last week so you can begin to get a feel for what has been happening...
This week I have been relatively busy.
The week started by having a link with Bury Christian Youth, a similar project in near by Bury St Edmunds. I assisted James Tennant with a Yr9 RE lesson on the Christmas story, an interesting lesson which was hopefully good fun too.
On Tuesday I went into Parkway Middle, my second assembly there this term, I had already done the Yr7 assembly but this time was the turn of the Yr8's, I presented the idea of commitment and my faith as a commitment, an assembly with plenty of cold baked beans, jelly and wet sticky cold pasta, all with items to find whilst blindfolded! The girl who dared to face my challenge well deserved her prize at the end!
Thursday morning saw me visiting Castle Manor Business and Enterprise College to spend the morning sitting in on a Yr10 and Yr12 RE lesson.
And of course last night was my commissioning at the AGM at the Methodist Church.
Latter today I will be presenting the Christmas story to Mudflaps, an after schools group held by Jan Watts.
And then comes a rest this weekend. Can I thank people for praying for Simon (my husband) as he has been searching for work since we moved here, he just found out he'll start work on Monday for Cambridge YMCA as a key worker for children!

An introduction to HSI and this blog page

This blog page is here for you to find out more about what we are doing here at HSI. I will be updating it regularly, hopefully weekly informing you what I will be doing in the schools each week so that you can see what is being done and so that you can pray or support the work in whatever way you can.

First some background information...

HSI started in 1995, with the objective of 'providing a live Christian perspective in the Schools of Haverhill and Clare.'

Through me, the paid worker and volunteers we engage with local schools, supporting their assemblies and religious education and any other ways the schools can use us.

In doing so, our aims are to further the development of pupils- their spiritual, moral, social and cultural growth-and open their minds to christian ways of thinking and living.

How HSI is run...

HSI is run by an Executive Committee which meets monthly. They are backed up by a Council of Reference, made up of Church leaders and other mature Christians, to provide stability, support and spiritual oversight, as well as being a reference point for enquirers.

We see HSI as an arm of the local churches, equipped to carry out a particular role in the community.

How does HSI run financially?

HSI is run entirely by voluntary donations from individuals and local businesses, as an investment in the young people of our locality.

if you would like to contribute to this work, either with a one off donation or by giving regulalry please e-mail us;
